Waninga AOC 2012- a one off??
An early pic of the Ch Cuckoo at 2012 Canberra Royal Show
Between 2010 and 2013 I made a decision based on time and space to keep and breed only Large Whites, Black and Blues and so relinquished some outstanding Large Buffs, Cuckoos and Bantam Buffs.
Yes this is a Large Cuckoo Orpington Ckl. Its a surprise but was hatched when I was away overseas in 2011. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it as a chick. Its from a White:White mating from Pen 2. One never really knows whats in the genes - I am aware that pre 2007 some of the Whites I had came from a Cuckoo 'out'fusion and Sue the Cuckoo Breeder in her Orpington Club and website article 'An Odyssey in White' mentioned infusing Cuckoo with Whites to get the shape and size into the Whites?!
Anyway the 'Boy' went to the 2012 Canberra Royal show where he got Champion Cuckoo and then he did the same at the 2012 Northern Feature and 2012 Southern Feature. He was an impressive bird but sadly died suddenly in March 2013. He was a magnificent Cuckoo with his colour, size, white legs and beak and proper eye colour! Didn't produce a live Chick so this journey has ended!

Waninga Splash
Looking a picture is my favourite Splash Hen. Winner of the 2009 CH AORC at the Orpington Club Southern Feature show and 1st hen at the 2010 National Orpington Show. Havent had too many Splash hatched over the years but becoming a favourite colour for many breeders - even if its not in the Australian standards as an Orpington Colour.
Happy to get these as a by product of Black: Blue matings these beautiful colours come along every now and again. In the 2011 Show team section of the website is a pic of my 2nd Splash Ckl at the 2011 National . Another really nice bird for size, shape and colour.

Waninga Colours pre 2010
Up until 2010 I also kept Large Buff, Bantam Buff , Large Cuckoo's and some by products that came from them. I had some really nice birds given to me and did quite well in the show pen with them and their offspring. However when time and more importantly space becomes and issue I had to make a decision on what to keep and that was the original Cook Orpington Colours of Large Black, Blue and White. Not that I am against the New colours of Blue Red and Crele etc - many of these colours look great in an Orpington shape- it was purely a case of 'unless you concentrate you cant focus' However in 2013 I got sucked back into breeding Large Buffs and in 2014 Bantam Blacks!
